Metabolically speaking , things just arent the same, especially after the age of 40. I find now that losing the additional 5 kgs that one may have is difficult , so , I thought id offer some tips which work for me ...... but understand , iam no Guru and am certainly not a trained medical practitioner ( my disclaimer lol )
- Understand what metabolism is. In the simplest terms!, metabolic rate is the rate at which your body burns calories. Very few people have a fast metabolism, and overweight individuals generally have slow metabolisms.
- Determine what is influencing your metabolism. There are some factors that you can control and change, and some factors that you can't.
- Age - Metabolic rate decreases 5% each decade, after the age of 40.
- Gender - Men generally burn calories more quickly than women because they have more muscle tissue.
- Heredity - You can inherit your metabolic rate from previous generations.[
- Thyroid disorder (underactive thyroid gland) and (overactive thyroid gland) can slow down or speed up metabolism, but only 3% and .3% of the population have hypo- and hyperthyroidism respectively.
- Eat small, frequent meals. Extending the time between meals makes your body go into "starvation mode," which decreases your metabolism as a means to conserve energy and prevent starvation. Skipping meals does not help you cut calories or lose weight; in fact, people generally eat less overall when they eat small, frequent meals. In addition to having four to six small meals per dayeating healthy snacks will also increase metabolism.
- Drink iced water. As with food, depriving your body of water can encourage it to "hoard" rather than "burn". When your drink ice cold water, your body burns calories warming it to body temperature. More than ninety percent of the chemical reactions in your body occur in water, so make sure you drink the right amount of water daily.
- Excercise , Is of course a must , cardio-vascular raises the heart rate , which in turn burns calories , on the other hand weight training is good too as weight build muscle , and muscle burns calories , in simple terms , Every muscle cell that you gain is like a little factory that constantly burns calories for you
Ok enough of the healthy stuff ! its Wimbledon time again!!!!
One of my favorite tournaments. Rushing home from work , on with the Telly , crack open a bottle of red wine ...... absolute bliss , Iam fortunate enough to have a T.V. in my kitchen , so the family dont go hungry during these 2 weeks , as unlike most males , I can multi task .... cook , drink , and watch Wimboldon. Rafa is on brilliant form , as is my man Roger ( Did you know his mother is South African , maiden name "Du Randt") Anyway on the ladies side the Williams sisters are batteling along , whilst the Russians continue to dominate .
On to the super rugby, i was so on track to win the superbru yellow cap this last week , then my boys in blue sadly lost , and crashed out of the top 6 , losing by just 3 points to a well deserved sharks victory. However , sadly , i cant see the Natal boys beating the formidable Crusaders in their own back yard! Stormers and Reds on a by this weekend , so not much in terms of Rugby , however , its another F1 weekend being the European Grand Prix , held in Valentia, Spain. A fast street circuit , with precious little overtaking opportunities , but has an estimated top speed of 323 kph. I suspect Red bull will yet again dominate.
Anyone heard of a "POKEN" ? Interesting device , basically a electronic busines card , so no more carrying bits of card board in ones wallet anymore ....
Google it .... they have just been launched in RSA. And when you get one , we can exchange details , quite neat .!!
on to my movie of the week ........ Are there any Jason Stathams fans out there ? If you liked the "Transporter " trilogy , your gonna love The Mechanic .
Well thats a wrap , watch out for the approaching cold front , so , stay warm and stay safe ....until next time
Thanks for reading my blog . ...
