chilly nights and hot soup

Well here we all are,  still , as predicted , Harold Camping and his cronies got it completly wrong again . One would think after a decade of incorrect predictions , he would realize that he sucks at predicting the future, best he sticks to his day job .... if he has one . 

The erections are over , yes i said erections, as in my opinion, all our polititions are pricks anyway. The DA didnt do as well here in Gauteng as I had hoped , i mean , dont the locals get it ? , people voted yet again with their hearts and not their heads , and soon they all gonna be sitting on a loo outside again .    

Jasons volcano however "went off " far better, smoking out the entire field, but he did very well , 



scoring a well earned 24 / 25. When asked what happened to the 25th point , Jason replied , "I didnt dress up " Apparently , the teacher involved EXPECTED him to dress up like a professor ... I mean WTF , , no where in the written brief does it even imply dressing up . The teachers are so full of it !! 

Isnt this weather just great, old bear here, just loves it , and what goes nicely with this weather .... and no not norwegian salmon , hmm well ok maybe , but i was refering to my butternut soup, with either pistachio or pecan nuts neatly arranged on top , with a genrerous swirl of fresh cream around the nuts. An interesting variation ( as a young mate of mine suggested) is to sprinkle feta cheese on top , which is also quite indulgent, which is excatly what we did on saterday evening , as we had some good friends over for a dinner party. I must say ,a good time had by all and the red wine was aflowin, needless to say , i didnt get to ride on sunday . Instead , parked off and watched movies . Which brings me to my movie of the week . Its a toss up between "kill the irishman " or Shutter Island " with Leonardo Di Capprio . The kak ending to shutter island definatly put it in second place,place , so, Kill the Irishman " it is ...... The true story of Danny Greene, a tough Irish thug working for mobsters in Cleveland during the 1970's.

starring Ray Stevenson , Christopher Walken and  VERY CHUBBY Val Kilmer. I enjoyed the movie thorougly, and if like me , you enjoy a good "skiet skop en donder" then this is the perfect movie for you .  

A friend of mine recently returned from Alaska and Canada , returning with an awesome gadget , gotta get me one of these ! its the direct competition to the apple ipad , yip , iam talking about the Black Berry Playbook . I do think however , one should wait for the 4G as its completly independant , doesnt need a black berry phone to act as a modem.Anyway , thats all from me folks , all I can say is wrap up warm .... oh how I wish it would snow ........

lasagna for breakfast

Well, the week that was , firstly ,what a awesome win by my boys in blue ...Went to the game at loftus , and what a game it was , had it all wrapped up by the end of the first half leading 40 points to 3 , full time score , 47 - 10 to the bulls . Second half was so tame by comparison. Below , Morne' giving it his best shot .



 Sunday morning up and adam bright and early what an awesome ride we had ! .... The raw power of my KX 450 F does it again , the adrenaline pumping through my veins as I power up the side of a mountain is so addictive .... Its like a drug and of course the sheer joy of "summiting" is fantastic.



 These days I think teachers are far more demanding on our kids, My son was given 2 projects to make in a week , The first , a bird feeder ,  which I made in record time on a monday night , the second a volcano , which , by the way , has to erupt . I mean REALLY , dont these teachers think I have a life ???? .... let alone have to hold down a serious job . These poor kids , my daughter , has to make a structure out of paper dowls ... Oooops , I mean I have to make a structure ........

So wednesday comes , voting day , sprung out of bed and off to the polling station i go , only to find the queue's a mile long. No way iam standing in that for 2 hrs , so its off home again to make the kids and the wife breakfast , and to build an erupting volcano .... hmm iam thinking chlorine and jeyes fluid right now.... That should teach the teacher a lesson or 2 ! Breakfast made and consumed , volcano base constructed ..kids can now add the paper mache to the chicken wire , whilst i go to make my mark ..... X... & theres no prizes for guessing whom i voted for .... Remember the song in the 80's by "Trio " .... " DA DA DA  " 

Then from there off to cresta, time to save a life and give blood , but before that a few checks need to be made ... iron ... (tick ) ....... Blood pressure , 120/ 70 ( tick ) .... resting pulse , 70 b/m ( tick ) I dont know about you , but the worst part of the whole procedure is the finger prick , to tests ones iron . A pint and 6.28 minutes later ( my significant other beat me by a full minute )  , done and dusted .... home to cook The lasagna, the familys favourite . 

 And of course , what would a nice tasty meal like that, be like without ones favourite wine ? . Now , as some of you may know , i'am quite a foodie , but when it comes to wine , iam an amatuer connoisseur ,  I love a good bottle of red , and ive recently re-discovered a really descent label , at a descent price too , theres nothing like a "Tall horse " shiraz ....... well for a house wine anyway !

Now , Lasagna for breakfast is just "be yaa rra full " ( ok so i guess u gotta hear me say it ).. certainly kick starts my metabolism .. besides , iam gonna enjoy life from now till the world ends

Yip w.t.f. ??? Have you seen all those bill boards saying the world is gonna end on the 21st ?? Yeah right .... I think theres too many people out there that has seen the movie 

"The Day after Tommorrow " ..... Which brings me to my next slot , my movie of the week , 

Iam not a chick flic person , but the "significant other " is  ! ...  so in an effort to avoid conflict ,chick flic it is , so ... ( drum roll ) my movie of the week is .........

 " YOU AGAIN "

 starring Kirsten Bell... ( yummy ) a rather tired looking Jamie Lee Curtis , and Sigorney Weaver . For a chic flic , the plot isnt bad at all, something easy to watch after a heavy day at the office.

Sex , TV and other things

Tonight is going to be a very interesting evening , for many reasons , the first is , all the questions iam going to have to field from my 13 yr old son, as today he spent the whole day in sex ed ........ yip sex ed . He was so excited last night he hardly eat supper ... so one can only imagine all the questions later . Gonna be fun .....

 in my day ... well not that iam that old , but talking about sex was taboo , especially to a teacher. How times have changed , in a good way of course. The second , well iam almost to nervous to say , is my TV debut , talking about the fundamentals in design of stables ....... yes thats my grande TV debut .... hopefully its not a load of horse shit .

Believe it or not theres a hell of a lot of thought that needs to go into horse stabeling , from floor finish to location . Horses even need a view may you believe, otherwise they get bored. Access , turning circles for the "muck truck " Feeding troughs ... all have to be carefully worked out. Bet the cowboys in the 18th centuary didnt think of such things any way enough of this horse play ... okay okay enough of the inuendo .

Friday tomorrow , which brings the end of yet another busy week, but the start of a busy weekend . I have yet another project to make for my son , a volcano that works nogal ... and they want an exlosion ... hehehe nothing a bit of jeyes fluid and chlorine cant fix, ok not quite , vinigar , baking soda , water and food coloring will do the trick tho. 

Apart from the volcano construction , i need to explore some new recipes for my book , and then subject my poor family to tasting it hehehehe.... they dont always complain tho, although , my daughter is off to sleep over at "nanna's" place this weekend , Hmmm I wonder why. 
Then its back on the bike for a bit of enduro riding, and afterwards beer and the boys awesome !!

Adios

My first post

Well , here we are , first post , and wow this isnt easy.So here goes nothing . Prehaps I should start and tell you a bit about me. I,am a young 46 yr old , married with 2 wonderful children, who havwe both recently had their birthdays , I cant believe my son is a teenager already , kinda makes me feel old , but none the less , its all good as he keeps me young on the race track . Its not easy guiding a 13 yr old boy through life , as life as I knew at his age was completly different, no such things as cell phones , drugs etc... so we keep him on the mx race track, but Dad here has to keep up . My 11 yr old daughter is just as wonderful , however , i'am waiting for those female hormones to kick in at any minute. 

My weekends are generally filled with cooking , entertaining , photography and of course riding my MX Bike . Ive named my blogger after my book..... life love & food, (cos thats me in a nutshell) , which iam still writing, hopefully will be complete by year end . Keeping it mainly Proudly South African      

Photography , of course is another passion , which is another creative release i enjoy. From shooting babies , whom i might add are my favourite "subjects" as one can capture so many expressions in minutes........ to shooting buildings ... of course , I am in the business. See if you can guess which building this is ....

isnt this weather great, my nickname is of course Polar bear , or just "Bear " ... I love this weather, Did you know , all Polar bears are left handed ? And of course theres a famous saying about lefty's " Everyone is born right handed ..... only the gifted overcome it " .... well that my motto and iam sticking to it .
